作詞家が語る「風再起時」誕生秘話

 2004年11月4日の午前９時少し前からスタートする香港電台第2ラジオの番組で
「風再起時」の作詞家の陳少琪がこの歌の誕生にまつわるレスリー との思い出を語った。
レスリーの作曲家としての天賦の才能を感じさせる内容である。
　　　
８９年の引退以前から既にレスリーは映画監督を志していた。当時、フローレンス・チャンからレスリーのために映画の脚本を書いて欲しいと依頼され、 ラブストーリーを書いてレスリーに見せたら気に入ってくれた。その後、しばらくして、マレーシアで２公演を行なうのでスタッフと一緒に来て欲しいと彼から 招かれて同行。コンサートツアー中に脚本について話がしたいのだと考えていた。数日間スタッフとマレイシアに滞在したが、意外にもレスリーはツアー中 もその後も脚本の話には触れなかった。その後、８９年の香港でのコンサートについての記者会見を挙行。会見上、レスリーがピンクの幕を外すと、 引退公演という文字が現われ、その時に初めてショウビジネスから引退する決意を知る。同時に、脚本についての話を全くしなかった理由に気付く。

最後のアルバム　"Final Encounter"のタイトル曲と引退コンサートの打ち合せでレスリーと会い、「風」を歌の題名に入れるように勧める。風はレスリー を象徴する言葉だから。「風継続吹」は彼をスターダムに押し上げた。そのキャリアの最終的な締めくくりとして「風」を入れるのが自然な成り行きだと。 そこで「風再起時」という題名をタイトル曲に提案する。レスリーはこの案に直ちに賛同。「風再起時～♪」と歌い出し、メロデイーをその場で口ずさみ初め、 私の目の前であっという間に曲を完成してみせた。


Story behind the birth of "When the Wind Blows Again"

Chan Siu Ki was the lyric writer for Leslie's "When the Wind Blows Again" and he talked about those days when he worked with Leslie on this song. Chan said Leslie had wanted to be a director back in those days before he retreated in 1989. At that time, Florence asked Chan to write a movie script for Leslie and he did. Leslie liked it (it was a love story). Some time had passed and Leslie invited Chan to go with the crew to Malaysia for his two concerts there and Chan thought that Leslie may discuss the script with him during the tour. He did go with the crew for a few days, but strange enough, Leslie didn't mention anything about the script throughout the trip nor thereafter. Again, some time passed and it was the day when Leslie held the press conference for his '89 concerts in Hong Kong. Only till the very moment that Leslie unveiled the pink certain covering the backdrop for the press con did Chan realize that Leslie was going to retreat from the showbiz, and that's why Leslie didn't talk about the script anymore.

Then when they met to discuss about a theme song for his final album "Final Encounter" and for the concert, Chan thought that the song title must carry the word "Wind" as it is almost a symbol of Leslie - the song "Wind blows on" made Leslie famous and it is only natural to round up his career with "Wind". So, he suggested a song title "When the Wind Blows Again". Leslie liked the idea very much ..... then he began with those four words (in Chinese) and started to hum the melody right in front of Chan and finished the composition of the melody within a very short time.
